FAQ
Questions, Answered Straight.
No fluff, no runaround. If your question isn’t here, ask us directly.
The profanity question
Does SwearGPS really curse?
Yes, but only if the user enables Unfiltered Mode. Out of the box, SwearGPS is clean. Nothing is spoken that you didn’t opt into.
Can I turn profanity off?
Yes. Profanity is off by default, has its own dedicated control separate from humor level, and can be switched off at any time.
Can I keep the jokes but drop the language?
That’s exactly what Blue Collar Mode is — sarcastic and funny without heavy profanity. It’s the default flavor of SwearGPS.
Can I turn the jokes off completely?
Yes. Professional Mode gives you clean, straightforward navigation with no commentary at all. You can also reduce humor frequency instead of eliminating it.
Is it safe to use with kids in the car?
In Professional Mode, yes — it behaves like any standard navigation app. Blue Collar Mode is sarcastic but avoids heavy profanity. Unfiltered Mode contains adult language and is intended for adult drivers; it’s a Pro feature and stays disabled until you deliberately turn it on.
Using the app
Does SwearGPS work like normal GPS?
Yes. SwearGPS is designed to provide navigation with personality layered on top of the driving experience. You search a destination, get a route, follow spoken turn-by-turn guidance, and get rerouted automatically if you miss a turn. The humor is an addition to navigation, never a replacement for it.
What happens if I miss a turn?
The app reroutes you, same as any GPS. Depending on your mode, you may also hear about it. Commentary is randomized so you don’t get the same line every time, and it can be reduced or disabled.
Can I switch personalities mid-drive?
Yes. Change your navigator whenever you want — Professional for the client ride, Vinny for the ride home. Don’t do it while the vehicle is moving.
Does it work offline?
Navigation features generally depend on data connectivity and available map and routing services. Coverage and offline behavior can vary by device and region.
What about road alerts?
SwearGPS is designed to support community-powered road awareness — crashes, potholes, police reports, speed cameras, road hazards, and traffic issues — where supported. Alerts depend on community reports and available data sources, are not guaranteed, and are not official notices.
Is SwearGPS affiliated with Google Maps or Waze?
No. SwearGPS is not affiliated with Google Maps, Waze, Apple Maps, or other navigation providers unless explicitly stated.
Pricing and Pro
Is SwearGPS free?
Yes. A free version is available, with premium features available through SwearGPS Pro. Free includes basic navigation, Vinny the Foreman, Professional Mode, Blue Collar Mode, saved destinations, and basic alerts.
What comes with Pro?
Premium voices, Unfiltered Mode, advanced features, and additional personalities — specifically Sully the Cabbie, Marge the Mechanic, Coach Ray, Unfiltered Mode, advanced navigation features, extra personality modes, and future Pro features as they ship. Pro is $3.99/month.
Can I preview voices before upgrading?
Yes, where supported. Voice previews let you hear a personality before you commit.
How do I cancel Pro?
Through the app store or platform where the subscription was purchased. Google Play: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Apple: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel billing. See Subscription Terms.
Do I get a refund if I cancel?
Refunds are handled by the app store or payment platform under their own policies, and access continues through the end of the period you already paid for. We don’t process those payments, so we can’t offer a separate refund guarantee.
I paid but Pro isn’t active.
Use Restore Purchases in app settings while signed in to the same store account you purchased with. If it still doesn’t work, contact support with your receipt.
Privacy and account
What data does SwearGPS collect?
Primarily location data to provide navigation and routing, plus basic device and usage information, your saved destinations and settings, and account and subscription status where applicable. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Do you sell my data?
No. We do not sell user data.
Why does it need my location?
Because it’s a navigation app. Location is used to figure out where you are, calculate a route, guide you, and reroute you. You can grant, limit, or revoke it in your device settings at any time — navigation won’t function without it.
Does it listen through my microphone?
Speaking directions to you does not require microphone access. If a feature like voice search is offered, your device will ask for microphone permission first, and it’s used only for that feature. You can decline or revoke it and keep using the rest of the app.
How do I delete my account?
In the app under Settings → Account → Delete Account where available, or email privacy@sweargps.com. Full details on the Account Deletion page. Cancel any active subscription first — deleting your account does not stop billing.
